National Locums require a Consultant Anaesthetist for a permanent post based in a highly regarded Hospital in Midwest, WA.
$350,000 - $450,000 per year based on a 40 hour working week.
Professional, Clinical and Leadership Responsibilities:
The key performance Indicators that relate to this position and unit are as follows. These are subject to change or addition as per WACHS Policy:
WEAT: 90% of patients for admission are pulled to the APU within 4 hours
Length of stay: within benchmark
Rate of community follow up of mental health patients within 7 days =>75%
Rate of readmission to mental health ward within 28 days =<12%
100% of discharge summaries completed within 24hours of discharge6.% patients with a management plan on PSOLIS =>80%
Activity: WAU actual = budget works closely with the Nurse Unit Manager to lead, coordinate and direct the inpatient unit in accordance with the strategic direction laid out by senior management, health service policy, legislation and clinical governance priorities.
Assumes a clinical leadership role in ensuring the provision of high quality care and optimal clinical outcomes for consumers admitted to the unit.
Undertakes the duties of a Consultant Psychiatrist as specified in the WAMental Health Act 2014.
Assumes accountability for the clinical care provided to consumers admitted under their care.
When providing direct treatment, assesses, diagnoses and manages the care of individuals’ mental illness, associated comorbid physical disorders, and psychosocial needs.
Assesses and manages risk.
Conducts regular clinical reviews of the consumers under their care.
Involves consumers and carers in planning their individual care.
Maintains timely, detailed and legible patient records.
Actively participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), and actively promotes MDT working within the service.
Ensures familiarity with, and works within, relevant legislation and policy.
Liaises and consults with colleagues and relevant external agencies regarding client management and discharge plans.
Ensures safe handover of care on discharge from the unit.
Holds overall responsibility for the timely and accurate completion of medical discharge summaries within the set timescales.
Collaborates with and advises the Clinical Director on clinical and organisational governance issues affecting the unit.
Advises and assists with new referrals, including emergencies, as required, including supporting the psychiatric liaison service if required.
Provides cover for consultant colleagues for short term or unplanned leave. Undertakes clinical shifts at the direction of the Head of Department, including participation in the after-hours and weekend on call roster as rostered
Education, Training and Performance Management
Undertakes ongoing professional development to maintain professional and technical skills at an advanced level and to maintain relevant specialist and professional medical registration.
Participates as an active member of the service’s continuing medical education program and Consultant Psychiatrists Peer Group meetings.
Supervises registrars in training for the RANZCP and other staff, as required.
Participates in the teaching of medical graduates and undergraduates, nursing and allied health staff.
Keeps up to date with WACHS mandatory training requirements.
Participates in annual performance development review with the Clinical Director.
Governance, Quality and Safety
Fulfils National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards requirements, including, but not limited to:
- Participates in a continuous process to monitor, evaluate and develop performance of the Acute Psychiatric Unit
- Takes part in the development, monitoring and review of key performance and quality assurance metrics
- Initiates and participates in audit, research projects and actively promotes research to facilitate service development
- Supports the delivery of safe patient care with a focus on the consumer’s experience.
- Participates in the reporting and review of clinical incidents, including root cause analysis, and takes part in the implementation and evaluation of recommendations promotes the South West Mental Health Service through liaison with other service providers, public relations, publications and lectures, as appropriate.
